It was integrated into the municipality of Tomar in 1855, by Decree of 24 October. Until that date it belonged to the municipality of Ferreira do Zêzere.
The parish consisted of the following places: Alviobeira, Benfica, Casal Velho, Ceras, Chão de Eiras, Freixo, Manobra, Nexebra, Portela de Nexebra, Quinta do Paço, Ribeira de Ceras, Touco, Valada, Vale Carneiro and Ventoso.
The parish was extinguished (aggregated) by the administrative reorganisation of 2012/2013, and its territory was integrated into the parish of Casais and Alviobeira.
Speaking of important economic activities, we highlight among which, Industries, civil locksmithing, painting car workshops and sheet metal beaters, in the places of Freixo, the most industrial place in the parish; wood processing, agriculture, small commerce, civil construction and livestock.

The old olive oil mill, at the entrance to the village, is in excellent condition but remains closed.
