The origins of the city of Viseu date back to the Castro era. With the Romanisation, it gained great importance, perhaps due to the junction of Roman roads whose existence only remains as proof the milestones (subject to validation by the inscriptions) that are found: two in Reigoso (Oliveira de Frades), another two in Benfeita (Oliveira de Frades), one in Vouzela, two in Moselos (Campo), one in São Martinho (Orgens), one in the city (in Rua do Arco), another in Alcafache (Mangualde) and two more in Abrunhosa (Mangualde).
